At almost every price, Dreame puts more dock on the floor than iRobot does. The Dreame L40s Ultra at $570 empties itself and washes its mops in hot water; the iRobot Roomba Max 715 Vac + AutoEmpty Dock at $500, which replaced the Max 705 Vac, empties itself and doesn't mop at all. That gap defines the pairing. Both sell robots; iRobot adds one floor washer, and Dreame adds cordless sticks and wet-dry floor washers. iRobot's lineup tops out at $1,200, while Dreame's flagships climb to $1,800.

iRobot's lasting strength is the brush. Owners of the Roomba j9+, the Roomba Combo j9+ and the Max 705 Vac, all now discontinued, single out the dual rubber extractors as the best design for pet hair. Max 705 owners add that its LiDAR mapped a two-floor 1,400 sq ft home in under 9 minutes, then complain of app glitches and firmware updates that tie it up. L40s Ultra owners counter with dual rollers that swallow long hair and hot mop washing, but say it is poor on carpet and its mop tray isn't fully removable.

One step up, the Roomba Combo 10 Max met the Dreame X40 Ultra; both are now discontinued, replaced by the iRobot Roomba Max 875 Combo + AutoWash Dock at $1200 and the Dreame X50 Ultra at $1000. Testing put the Roomba among the best ever on pet hair and deep cleaning, yet its mop-washing dock drags the pad over a roller and owners call it an afterthought. X40 owners praise 12000 Pa suction, an extending side brush and a mop that reaches baseboards, and grumble about the app. At the bottom, the Roomba 105 Vac gets good carpet marks but weak pet-hair pickup. Start with iRobot if a vacuum-first robot with rubber brushes and US support is the priority. Dreame suits you if you want real mopping, a fully automated dock for the money, or a flagship above iRobot's ceiling.
