Best Robot Vacuums

A vacuum-only robot is the honest automation buy: no mop pads to wash, no water tank to babysit, just scheduled floors. The specs that actually separate them are navigation (LiDAR maps rooms; gyroscope models bounce), suction you can't compare across brands (there's no standard Pa test), and whether the dock empties the bin for you. Below, every vacuum-only robot we track.

The Vacuum List tracks 22 models in this category from 10 brands, priced $90 to $750. The most affordable is the Lefant M210 at ~$90, and the flagship is the iRobot Roomba j7+ at ~$750. Compare them all below.

Vacuum-only robots fall into three bands, and navigation is what divides them. Around $90 to $170, the Lefant M210, iLife V2, Roomba Vac Essential and Eufy RoboVac 11S Max steer by gyroscope and bump sensors. They make no map and offer no room selection, so they cover a floor through repetition. Owners of the 11S Max say a daily run keeps a small home clean even though any single pass misses spots. LiDAR then reaches surprisingly low prices: the iLife A30s ($180), SwitchBot K11+ ($240) and Roomba 105 Vac ($280) all build maps with no-go zones. Around $500 every model has a self-empty dock as standard, and the Shark Matrix and Roomba Max 715 Vac ($500 each) add obstacle recognition for cables, socks and pet waste. The Roomba j9+ and Max 705 Vac that held this spot are discontinued.

Self-emptying is where running costs live. Bagged docks such as iRobot's AutoEmpty, which the maker rates at up to 75 days between bag changes, trade the daily bin dump for a supply of proprietary bags and a loud emptying cycle. Shark Matrix owners compare it to a jackhammer and warn against scheduling it at nap time. The Roomba 205 is the bagless exception: iRobot says its internal compactor holds up to 60 days of debris, but owners in shedding homes report the bin filling much sooner and the compressed brick scattering when emptied. The SwitchBot K10+ answers small, cluttered apartments with a body under ten inches across and a 48 dB quiet mode. Height matters too. The 11S Max stands 2.85 inches and slides under sofas that the 4.1-inch Roomba 105 cannot reach.

The case for skipping the mop is simplicity. Max 705 Vac owners point out that a vacuum-only robot sidesteps the clog-prone wet systems of combo docks. Owners of the j9+ and Max 705 also make the opposite point: similar money buys a robot that mops as well. Across brands, robots without obstacle recognition need the floor cleared of cords and socks before each run, and the dual rubber extractors on the j-series and Max Roombas draw the most consistent praise for pet hair. Several models listed here, including the j7+, j9+, Roborock Q5 Pro+, Eufy L60 and Roomba 205, are discontinued and are best treated as sale or refurbished buys.

Best Robot Vacuums: common questions

Is a gyroscope robot vacuum still worth buying?โ–พ

For a small, mostly hard-floor home, yes. Owners of the Eufy 11S Max value its simplicity, quiet running and low profile. It cannot map rooms, avoid zones or clean in tidy rows, though, so larger or cluttered homes get better coverage from a budget LiDAR model.

Do I need a self-emptying dock?โ–พ

It saves emptying a small bin after most runs, which matters in pet homes. The costs are proprietary bags, floor space and a loud emptying cycle. The bagless Roomba 205 compacts debris inside the robot instead, though owners with shedding pets say it fills faster than claimed.

Why buy a vacuum-only robot instead of a vacuum-mop combo?โ–พ

Fewer parts to clean and fail. Owners choose vacuum-only models to avoid mop pads, water tanks and wash docks. If your floors are mostly carpet, or you mop by hand anyway, a vacuum-only robot spends more of its budget on suction and brushes.
